Slowly gaining acclaim, Liverpool’s very own Sugarmen’s debut single Dirt is a tasty, no-fuss piece of punky goodness. With production coming from Mick Jones and Paul Weller loaning his studio to the band, it bears strong resemblances to the great band’s these men once graced. Guitars bring to mind Johnny Marr, yet melodically there are echoes of The Pigeon Detectives; there is definitely something fresh in the interplay between instruments and vocals. Clocking up at 2:41, this isn’t the longest song in the world – but perhaps because it is so short and sharp, it is so charming. Following opening for Paul Weller on recent dates, it is evident that these locals are destined for big things – keep your eyes peeled.
Sugarmen have the following gigs lined up;
Friday 22nd-Sunday 24th May, Dot To Dot Festival @ Manchester/Bristol/Nottingham
Saturday 20th June, Blur support @ Hyde Park
