Happy Birthday Citybike

Today, Liverpool’s citybike scheme celebrates its first birthday.

The largest public cycling scheme outside of London, citybike gives the public of Liverpool the opportunity to hire one of 1000 bikes from more than 120 different stations across the city.  Since the scheme’s induction twelve months ago, citybikes have travelled over 310,000 miles around the city having been hired just over 55,000 times.

At £3 for two hours, citybike hire has proved pretty popular and it is clear that Liverpudlians love these hop-on-hop-off bikes almost as much as Londoners. Outside John Lewis is proving to be the most popular place to pick up a citybike, with university stations also being used frequently.

The waterfront at Albert Dock isn’t a bad place for an evening adventure.

To celebrate the anniversary, members of the successful bike hire scheme are taking part in a waterfront bike ride, but there are lots of other places around Liverpool that are perfect cycling spots, including Sefton Park, Everton Park and Princes Park. For more information and interactive stats, head on over to www.citybikeliverpool.co.uk.

Sefton Park is also a pretty great spot for a leisurely cycle.
