UoL retain Varsity title

Yep, it’s all over; the Sport Liverpool teams from the University of Liverpool have reigned victorious over Team LJMU, retaining the title they won at last year’s Varsity.

Despite an early loss in the swimming at Monday evening’s curtain-raiser, the University of Liverpool sports teams put in stellar winning performances across a huge number of events yesterday at the Greenbank Academy and today in venues across Liverpool to become Varsity Champions 2017.

The majority of the action came from Wyncote Sports Ground, but the UoL and LJMU teams also took to the courts at the University of Liverpool Sports Centre, Fort Marsh, and the Greenbank Academy, with both unis’ rowers cutting up the water at the Watersports Centre.

LSRadio were present at the women’s basketball match earlier this afternoon, which finally finished 53 – 50 to UoL, following a nail-biting tussle between the two sides where only one point separated them on several occasions. Over at Wyncote, our reporters were on the scene to see some of the most popular spectator events of Varsity – rugby, football, lacrosse, and American football, the specific match reports for which will be available in the coming few days.

LJMU suffered their heaviest defeat at the hands of UoL’s Men’s Rugby Union team, with LURFC winning the match 57 – 14. A close second was in the Women’s Lacrosse where UoL stormed to a 22 – 4 victory. The men’s 1st football took a dramatic turn when a brawl involving several teams began, forcing the ref to call the game off at 88 minutes, with the 3 – 3 score standing.
